NUR 3220 NURSING CARE OF WOMEN AND NEWBORNS

This course focuses on the role of the nurse in meeting the physiological, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental needs of the family which includes the childbearing woman, and the newborn, and how it is integrated into the family. Course content includes human growth and development, newborn care, selected newborn alterations and anomalies. Care of a childbearing woman with normal progression and deviations in both pregnancy and the delivery of the infant. Nutrition, pharmacology, cultural diversity, use of technology, communication, anatomy and physiology review, medical terminology, and critical thinking. Upon completion of this course students will be able to provide and manage care for childbearing women and newborns in a variety of settings, along with increased understanding of the developing family.
