Office of Student Success
The Office of Student Success (OSS) offers proactive and student-centered support for all MSMC students. The holistic and developmental approach of the OSS staff supports the academic and interpersonal development of students as they progress through their college career.
ACADEMIC COACHING/ADVISING
All incoming first-year students are assigned an Academic Coach, who is a Masters-level professional and is focused on supporting students as they transition from high school to college. The academic coaches work individually with students to help them develop skills that are integral to academic success, including, but not limited to: time management, study strategies, goal-setting, organization and familiarity with campus resources. The academic coaches additionally serve as academic advisors to all students in an Undeclared major as well as first-year Business and Nursing students. As academic advisors, they assist students in degree mapping and selecting courses for the following semester(s).
TUTORING SERVICES
Individual and small group tutoring is available to all MSMC undergraduate students free of charge in most major subject areas. MSMC tutors are current students who are highly recommended by college faculty and have received an “A” in the course content. Evidence shows that students who utilize Tutoring Services at MSMC have an easier time learning and understanding their material, which contributes directly to a student’s academic success.
When a peer tutor is not available, all students additionally have access through e-Class to a 24/7 virtual tutoring platform called Tutor.com. Students can easily sign up for additional hours for Tutor.com as needed through the Office of Student Success.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS
The OSS coordinates several special programs on campus, including:
- The First Year Family Connection Program, which provides family and friends of first-year students with regular updates from the Office of Student Success regarding vital and relevant college information throughout the academic year.
- The Student Transition and Engagement Program (STEP), which is an academic success program for students who have demonstrated the ability to be successful through non-academic qualities, such as resilience, perseverance, self-efficacy, leadership, etc.
- The I AM FIRST Program, which celebrates and supports students who are first in their families to attend and/or graduate from college.
