The format of this course will target the development of the conceptual framework and analytical skills that are required for an understanding of addictions. The application of a lifespan systems perspective will be highlighted. Emphasis will be placed on developing an understanding of: history, presentation and treatment approaches associated with "developmental-addictions". The general focus is that students will be expected to study basic and advanced concepts associated with the theory and application of addictive behavior. It is the intent, within this framework, to link the readings with actual settings. Review of the history and systems associated with clinical, program and policy issues will be required.
