GAM 1010 INTRODUCTION TO GAME DESIGN
This course explores games (and the related area of gamification) from a design perspective (i.e. prior to development). We will explore why games engage people and even how they can be harnessed to achieve non-game goals. We will investigate the elements which create game experiences, including rule design, play mechanics, game balancing, narrative, social game interaction and the integration of visual, audio, and tactile elements into the total game experience. We will also look at how games get produced and students will design, document and play-test their own game experience during the semester.
