ED 5531 RESEARCH IN TEACHING MATHEMATICS FOR CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
This course focuses on the current research-based methods of teaching elementary mathematics. Current theories and relevant research will be examined. Lesson planning will also be a focus, with an emphasis on engaging students in critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and collaboration. Candidates will learn to interpret different types of results from standardized tests and demonstrate the ability to explain test results to parents. Instructional approaches and assessment tools will be demonstrated and applied in field experiences. Candidates will complete a course related research project. Fieldwork is required.
