ENG 4133 HARRY POTTER BOOKS

This course is intended to guide students to an appreciation of the literary qualities of the Harry Potter books. Although the novels can be read as entertaining tales of mystery and fantasy, they can be seen on a deeper level as explorations of myths, legends, science, and magic. The books will be analyzed with regard to plot, theme, character, symbolism, and allusion; Harry himself will be looked at as an example of the archetypal hero figure in literature, who undergoes a quest and fights evil.
