Exercise Science, BS

Exercise Science is the name given to the multidisciplinary scientific study of the body in motion. Some disciplines found under the umbrella of exercise science include, but are not limited, exercise physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, motor learning, sport nutrition, adaptive physical education, and health and wellness. The undergraduate major in exercise science is designed to prepare the student for careers or future scholarship that focus on the human body. Courses in this major will produce a student who is well versed in the workings of the human body and its needs under physical and emotional stress. He or she will also be well versed in self-care, injury prevention, rehabilitative options, and general health and wellness. Students who major in exercise science have broad options once they graduate. A sampling of options include pursuit of fitness and wellness certifications, clinical technology licensure, professional degrees such as athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, MD or OD degree programs, graduate study and research in exercise science and/or study and research in nutrition, public health and health education.
