First-Year Experience (FYE) Program
The First-Year Experience (FYE) Program welcomes first-year students and fosters success as they transition into the Mount Saint Mary College community. Through specifically designed programming throughout students' first year of college, the FYE cultivates community-based learning, academic success, the personal development necessary for college life, and a connection to the Mount as first-year students become active members in our community of learners. The First-Year Experience Program includes two components: (1) learning communities and (2) FYE 1010 (co-curricular activities).
FYE is designed to support first-year students in their academic, social and personal transition to college. In learning communities, two courses are linked to provide students opportunities to make connections between their courses and to receive tailored information literacy instruction. Each community is composed of 20 students, a personal librarian, an academic coach, and two faculty course instructors. Students entering the traditional program will be required to participate in FYE during their first semester of matriculation. Students entering in the spring semester will be required to enroll in FYE in the subsequent fall semester and should consult with their academic coach and the FYE Director to enroll. Successful completion of the First-Year Experience program is a requirement for graduation. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs (AVPAA).
