SOC 2710 Health and Society

(formerly Sociology of Health and Illness)

Exploration of the social model to study health limits and illness: how meanings and experience are socially produced in the U.S. and other cultures. Students will gain an understanding of illness as a social construct, the social structure of health services, medical-model and sociological model, doctor-patient relationship, the medical profession and ethical subject matter. Students will analyze various disparities in healthcare delivery. Helpful for those studying for MCATS.
