POL 3110 International Political Economy
This course provides an introduction and overview to international political economy (IPE), a subfield of international relations, which examines the actions and interactions of states markets (multinational corporations, investment, banking), domestic (Central Banks, Finance Ministries) and international institutions (WTO, IMF), economics and politics (G8, G20) as they happen on national, bilateral, multilateral, regional and global levels. The course examines the "classical" theories of IPE - liberalism, realism, dependency and constructivism - as well as issue areas such as trade, development, monetary policy and state's role in an era of globalization.
