EDU 3160 Methods and Techniques of Teaching Social Studies for Adolescent Students

This course will address micro-teaching, peer teaching and the study of techniques and strategies deemed appropriate for accomplishing the goals of the program in achieving competencies. Through teacher-generated and student-generated topics, teacher candidates will learn to provide instruction requiring critical analysis and research. The importance of teaching comprehensive social studies lessons with a view towards the interaction of political, geographic, economic, social, historical and cultural developments will be emphasized. This course is also designed to bring together the elements of the disciplines, which make up the social studies, to provide teacher candidates with a comprehensive understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of the social studies, and equip candidates with the ideas, strategies and techniques for teaching social studies in the middle and secondary schools.
