COR 3590 Future Nostalgia: Memorials and Memories

Drawing upon multi-disciplinary work in visual rhetoric, philosophy, religious studies, museum studies, and more, this course challenges students to consider how and to what extent collective memory and memorial practices inform our civic lives by focusing on contemporary memorials, monuments, and other constructed spaces. Themes of this course include but are not limited to place and belonging, death and dying, violence and pain, nationalism, capitalism, bodies and gender, sacred and profane.
