MHC 5450 Clinical Application of Expressive Therapies

This course will cover expressive therapies and play therapy techniques, drawing from the fields of trauma, neurobiology and play therapy. This includes the use of sand tray, play therapy, art and metaphors. Students will develop knowledge and skill competencies to facilitate expressive therapies and play therapy as a therapeutic intervention for children, teens, adults and families. This course provides students with an introduction to trauma informed practice with basic neuroscience concepts, a review of the history of play therapy, skills fostering the theory-informed develop of counseling relationships and an overview to various theoretical applications and best practices.
