SOC 2710 Sociology of Health and Illness

(formerly SOC 271; Medical Sociology; Sociology of Healthcare)

Exploration of the social model to study health limits and illness: how meanings and experience are socially produced in the U.S. and other cultures. Students will gain an understanding of illness as a social construct, the social structure of health services, medical-model and sociological model, doctor-patient relationship, the medical profession and ethical subject matter. Students will analyze various disparities in healthcare delivery.
