BLW 3100 Entertainment and Sports Law

This course will explore the relationship between entertainment, sport and the law. It will discuss law as it impacts the theatre, move, television, entertainment, media and sports business. The regulation of performers in the Actors Equity Association, SAG-AFTRA, American Guild of Variety Artists and relevant players associations will be analyzed and discussed. The regulation of legal relationships, enforcement of professional contracts, liability for injuries and antitrust laws as they impact business decisions as to broadcasting and social media will be covered. Students will be permitted to select a research paper and presentation project within their sub-specialty of interest (entertainment, media or sport) in consultation with advisor to develop a marketable depth of knowledge.
