NUR 5490 Introduction to Health Policy Analysis

This course provides an introduction to the issues and methods of healthcare policy analysis in considering complex, real-world problems involving multiple actors with diverse interests, information uncertainty, institutional complexity, and ethical controversy. Throughout the course, students analyze the influence of policies on patient care and outcomes locally, nationwide, and globally. Furthermore, the students examine the effects of legal, ethics, regulatory, epidemiologic, values, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and socio-political on healthcare policy. Moreover, students evaluate the role of the government in society. The course addresses questions such as: What is policy analysis? How do we undertake policy analysis? How do we choose among different policy alternatives? 45 lecture hours per semester.
