NUR 5056 Advanced Physical Assessment and Specialty Practicum for Nurse Educators

This course further develops the physical assessment skills of the nurse educator student through the use of case-based studies, clinical scenarios, didactic and laboratory settings and synthesize these skills and pathopharmacology concepts in caring for patients in a specialty practice setting. Students will demonstrate competency in the systematic collection, organization, interpretation and communication of health status data across the lifespan using various teaching methods. A supervised clinical field experience is required in which students will be expected to refine assessment skills, develop comprehensive health history and problem lists, and utilize accepted documentation format in communicating results to health care team. 30 lecture/lab hours per semester and 30 hours of supervised specialty practicum.

Prerequisite

Evidence of the satisfactory completion of a basic physical assessment course; the student must pass the Basic Physical Assessment Competency Exam; completion of NUR 5055
