PHI 2410 Philosophy of Law

(formerly PHI 241; PHI 236; PHI 340)

An examination of the role of philosophy and morality in legal decisions and the legal profession; an examination of the role of philosophy and morality in criminal law and First Amendment law (freedom of speech and religion) and other important legal issues of our time; an investigation of the extent to which the state may regulate the private affairs of its citizens; and a consideration of the role that moral theory has to play in the process of constitutional interpretation.
