LGL 1100 Introduction to the American Legal System

This fundamental course introduces students to basic legal concepts and theories. What society considers important often is set forth in law. This course provides an overview of the American legal system, including the structure of the court systems. The content enables students to discover the role the legal system plays in everyday life. Students will also recognize and apply knowledge about the diverse experiences of different groups who interact with the American Legal System. Problems are approached from a legal perspective, analyzing the issues involved in a logical and rational manner. Legal reasoning and analysis are integrated into the course to enable students to examine the legal system and its operation with balance. Learning about law will help students become better informed.
