PHIL 111 Philosophy & Science Fiction

This course connects the excitement of science fiction to the deep thinking of timeless philosophical inquiry.  It covers the vast changes in human life brought by the last century by using classic films and stories of the science fiction genre together with readings in philosophy to explore the questions that emerge.  Some of the main topics include time-travel, aliens, the singularity, futuristic love, women and men, utopian and dystopian futures, AI, the expansion of human intelligence, the importance of language, robots and cyborgs, and the ethics of the future.  Authors include Heinlin, Dick, Asimov, Clarke, Cress, and many others.
