PUB 325 Historical Archaeology
Introduction to the sub-discipline of Historical Archaeology. The general development of archaeology as a Western discipline will be reviewed, as well as the related issues of contingency and cultural bias. Students will be familiarized with historical site structure and formation processes, principles of excavation, data recovery, recordation, data processing, and sources of information for interpreting historic sites. Students will also be provided with an in-depth review of material remains found at historical sites, including specific terms and methods of analysis for types and classes of material categories (such as ceramics, glass, and faunal remains).
