BIOL 310 Developmental Biology

Modern developmental biology is a diverse field that integrates many other biological disciplines including anatomy, biochemistry, cell biology, evolutionary biology, molecular biology, neurobiology and physiology. This course will explore the chemical, physical and conceptual bases of the development of multicellular organisms, focusing on animal development. Lecture topics will include cell communication, establishment of body plans, stages of morphogenesis and cell death, among others. Laboratory exercises will complement the topics covered in lecture, concentrating on the development of animal models such as sea urchin, chicken, fruit fly, and frog.
