2026-2027 On-Campus Undergraduate Catalog

Academic Placement

Incoming on-campus undergraduate students are required to complete one of the following placement options. This process is designed to ensure academic success by placing students in courses appropriate to their current skill levels.

Placement Options: Students may fulfill the placement requirement in one of the following ways:

  1. Submit Standardized Test Scores (SAT, ACT, or CLT) that meet minimum benchmarks. Scores should be sent to: admissionsoffice@lbc.edu or submitted via the student's Admissions Counselor.
  2. Transfer in College-Level Credits that are equivalent college-level coursework in writing (English) and/or math. Official transcripts must be received by Admissions.
  3. Submit equivalent AP or CLEP Test Scores (English Language/Composition or Math) that meet minimum benchmarks. Students should submit official AP/CLEP score reports to Admissions.
  4. Complete an Accuplacer Placement test administered remotely through the Ally Center. Students sign up via a form sent by their admissions counselor and then receive a test code to the LBC email address. The test must be completed before the expiration date in the voucher code email sent by the testing coordinator.

Default Placement Policy: If a student does not complete one of the four placement options, they will be automatically enrolled in the following non-credit-bearing remedial courses:

LAN 060 – Writing Fundamentals Introduction to College Reading and Writing

MAT 060 – Basic Math Skills

These courses are designed to build readiness for college-level coursework. While required if placed, they do not count toward graduation. Students must successfully complete these remedial courses before progressing to credit-bearing writing and math courses.

Study Skills

Incoming students with a cumulative high school GPA of less than 2.5, or as determined by the Admission Committee, will be placed in Study Skills. Students may also be placed in one or more remedial course(s) based on their placement test scores and an evaluation of high school transcripts.

Students may take the Accuplacer to determine if they can test out of the remedial courses. The Accuplacer will not be used as admission criteria.

Students placed on Study Skills will be limited to 15 credits or fewer during their first semester and will be required to attend two academic mentoring appointments and two study hours per week at the Ally Center. Students required to visit Academic Mentoring Services through the Study Skills program must attend 20 appointments by the end of their first semester. Students will be required to reschedule any missed appointments in accordance with the Ally Center policy. Failure to complete the Study Skills program may result in a recommendation for academic dismissal with the right to appeal.
