BIOL 290 Basic Laboratory Techniques in Biology

This course will introduce students to fundamental practices, theories, and techniques typically required in the molecular, biochemical, and cellular sciences. Experimental design, quantitative measurements, statistical analyses, data presentation, laboratory safety, and proper record keeping will be covered. Techniques and procedures include accurate and reproducible measurements (e.g., volumes, weights), solution preparation, spectrophotometry, centrifugation, culturing, and the ability to identify experiments and assays necessary to separate and characterize macromolecules, cells, and microscopic organisms.
