MUS 461 Measurement, Evaluation, & Assessment in Music Education

Three hours per week. Prerequisite: MUS 361; co-requisite: MUS 363WI. Basic concepts underlying the design, construction, administration, and interpretation of music tests. Consideration of the relationship between the use of assessment tools and instructional planning, and assessment and evaluation of individual students and music instruction. Use of standardized, informal, alternative, group, and individual tests.  The purpose of this course is to develop an understanding of the basic concepts underlying the design, construction, administration, and interpretation of music tests. This will involve consideration of the relationship between the use of assessment tools and instructional planning, and assessment and evaluation of individual students and music instruction. Modalities investigated will include standardized, informal, alternative, group, and individual tests.
