MUS 306 Jazz Piano

Designed for pianists and non-pianists alike, JazzPiano provides an overview of the techniquesutilized by professional jazz pianists and a basicworking knowledge of the piano keyboard. Theclass will cover various chord structures (chordvoicing) to be placed in basic diatonicprogressions, the use of color tones in differentchord types, and the changing roles of the leftand right hand for comping (complementing) and forimprovising. This course will also introduce thestudent to jazz standard repertoire byimplementing American Jazz Standard song forms asa medium for developing these techniques.
