KIN 322 Psychology of Health Behaviors

Course will focus on the psychological andbehavioral processes in health, illness, andhealthcare. Psychological factors can affecthealth directly (e.g., stress causing the releaseof hormones such as cortisol which damage thebody over time) and indirectly via a person's ownbehavior choices which can either harm or protecthealth (e.g., smoking or exercise). Using abiopsychosocial approach this course examines howhealth is the product not only of biologicalprocesses (e.g., virus, tumor.) but also ofpsychological processes (e.g., stress, attitudes, and behaviors) and social processes (e.g.socioeconomic status, culture, and ethnicity).
