THEA 3360 History of American Musical Theatre

A cultural study of the American Musical as an art form beginning with its origins in vaudeville, burlesque, English music halls,European operetta and minstreal shows through its development, and ultimately its effect on popular culture today. This class will include in-depth analysis of varied musicals to further the understanding of how plot, musical structure and interpretation combine to define the genre.
