The accelerated program saves one year of college expenses and provides an accelerated entry into a professional career.

The Department of Social Work, and the Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law propose a collaboration that offers qualified students an opportunity to earn a combined Bachelor of Social Work degree and a Juris Doctor Degree.

The Accelerated 3+3 Program would allow students to complete both undergraduate Social Work Bachelor degree and a law degree within six years rather than the traditional seven year time period. This saves one year of college expenses and provides an accelerated entry into a professional career.

Qualified students would complete the core undergraduate requirements within the first three years of study. The fourth year of undergraduate would also be the first year of law school. At the satisfactory completion of the first year of law school, the student would officially receive their Bachelor in Social Work.

Students who participate in the 3+3 track will have the option to take a 6 credit summer term after the second semester junior year to complete their internship requirements.

To qualify for the program, social work students must:

  1. Complete all core Social Work Program requirements within the first three years of undergraduate study.
  2. Students will apply for the 3+3 program at time of entry into freshman year. While it does not guarantee admission into the law school, it does flag them in the system that this is intended. The Law school will then keep student notified of important application dates, events of the school, and workshops offered to help increase LSAT readiness.
  3. Students will meet Undergraduate tuition rate guidelines for registration during the semesters enrolled in the School of Social Work and will transition to Graduate tuition requirements upon entry into the Law School.
  4. Students who enter the 3+3 track and change their track during their enrollment will be required to complete ALL of the requirements of the complete Bachelor of Social Work program catalog of their incoming year.
  5. All enrolled students in 3+3 must complete 96 credits to transition to the Law School Graduate program.
  6. Achieve a minimum 3.2 cumulative UGPA.
  7. During the junior year take the LSAT and obtain a minimum score of 149.
