SES-427 APPLD SPRT, EXER & PERF PSYCHOLOGY

This course will examine relevant issues in the field of applied sport psychology and the application of psychological theories and research to performance in sport, exercise, and non-sport contexts. The course is designed to teach the basics of psychological skills training and intervention development covering the application of cognitive strategies, such as goal setting, imagery, positive self-talk, and teambuilding. Students will have the opportunity to develop mental training programs for athletes, exercisers, groups/teams, coaches, and/or non-sport performers. Emphasis will be placed on assisting students to develop their consulting skills and design and apply evidence-based mental training techniques and intervention. Prerequisites: SES 335 Introduction to Sport Psychology, SES 337 Introduction to Exercise Psychology and with Senior Standing.
