The PALS recertification course is comprised of retraining that focus on information for healthcare professionals who initiate and direct advanced life support in critically ill infants and children. The course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics. The course covers treatment beyond the first few emergency minutes and goes through stabilizing patients or transport phases of a pediatric emergency, in or out of the hospital. The course includes simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active, hands-on participation through learning stations where students practice essential skills individually, as part of a team, and as team leader. The goal of the PALS recertification course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.
