SES-603 EXERCISE IS MEDICINE

This course bridges the gap between healthcare professionals in regards to physical activity and exercise. Physical activity is integral in the prevention and treatment of diseases and this course will provide evidence and skills on why physical activity should be regularly assessed and "treated" as part of the healthcare system. American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) created the global initiative "Exercise is Medicine" (EIM). EIM is focused on encouraging primary care physicians and other health care providers to include physical activity when designing treatment plans for patients. Moreover, EIM advises that such treatments should be referred to EIM Credentialed Exercise and Exercise Professionals. The goal of EIM is to increase physical activity's popularity among the medical community and to advance the notion of exercise being considered as a "vital sign."
