PSY-629 PRINCIPLES/APPL OF FORNSC PSY

This 3-credit course will examine the role of psychological principles and research in contemporary issues within the legal and law enforcement systems. The focus of this course will be the application of experimental areas of psychology (e.g., social, cognitive, developmental) to evaluating various aspects of the criminal justice system, which will serve as a foundation for research and practical work in the field of forensic psychology. Students will gain an appreciation for the application of psychological principles in and out of the courtroom, critically analyzing empirical research on topics such as police investigations, interrogations and false confessions, deception detection, eyewitness memory and identification procedures, juries, and legal decision making.
