LAW-6354 TAX AND ESTATE PLANNING

This will be a 3-credit hour course on tax and estate planning. At minimum, we will cover how to prepare tax returns, and draft documents including Wills, Trusts, powers of attorney, and advanced medical directives. We will also prepare you to address constitutional law tax questions on the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) and address Will and Trust questions on the state portion of the Florida Bar Examination. Students will learn the basics of the federal income, gift, and estate taxes. Students will be able to apply this knowledge using commercial tax preparation software (e.g., TaxSlayer) to prepare tax returns. Students will learn the basics of Will, Trust, and Estate Planning law. Students will be able to apply this knowledge using commercial will and trust drafting software (e.g., Lawgic) to prepare Wills, Trusts, powers of attorney, and advanced medical directives. Students will learn how to navigate typical Will multiple choice questions and Trust essay questions so that they can pass the Florida Bar Examination.
