INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL LAW AND POLICY SEMINAR This course examines trans-boundary environmental issues, focusing on international mechanisms to both deal with major pollution issues and preserve and allocate scarce resources. It will include examination of various international protocols and treaties designed to promote sustainable development, enforcement mechanisms, international response to environmental disasters, the rights of indigenous peoples whose ancestral lands are subject to regulation or confiscation, and the interplay between emerging economies and environmental preservation. The course will include a specific case study of the Lukuru Project, a primate preserve in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Enrollment is limited, and students will prepare a paper suitable to meet the upper level writing requirement.
