ADL-720 HISTORY OF EDUCATION

This course provides a holistic approach and comprehensive "map" of education--from its rudimentary elements in the Fertile Crescent, to medieval societies, to the cybernetics revolution of our present day. Emphasis will be given to the historiography of education in several contexts. These will include the following: Ancient World, Classical Education of Greece and Rome, Monastic and Cathedral Schools of the Medieval Period, evolution of Higher Education, Colonial Schools in the U.S., Education and Segregation, emergence of Special Education, Classical Theories of Learning, Adult Education, and issues of literacy, globalization, and technology in the twenty-first Century.
