MMT 200 Introduction to Massage Therapy Techniques

This course will explore in detail professional and legal issues, sanitation, professional touch, and massage equipment and products. Coursework will include the anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology of the body by systems, and the effects of massage on each. Disease conditions will be discussed in terms of indications and contraindications for massage. Medical terminology will be introduced and used to prepare SOAP note documentation of massages performed. Client consultations, conditions, and treatment plans are discussed. Emotional transference and psychological effects of massage will be addressed. Guidelines for setting up a practice, including compliance with local and state regulations, are discussed. Students will complete clinical hours to meet licensing requirements.
