Selection Criteria
Ogeechee Technical College sets a specific number of admission slots for each competitive admissions program. All students who meet the minimum requirements for competitive admissions programs by the posted deadlines are entered into the selection process.
Students Residential Criteria for Competitive Selection programs:
In accordance with TCSG Procedure 6.6.1p Student Tuition and Fees, Colleges may exercise discretionary flexibility to enroll out-of-state and non-citizen applicants, including those covered under the military exemption, into competitive admission programs when capacity, workforce needs, or institutional priorities justify such action.
For the ASN program:
To qualify, students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA of the pre-requisite courses and a minimum of 75% cumulative TEAS exam score. When the number of qualified applicants exceeds available clinical placements, a point system is used to rank applicants. The following components are used to calculate an applicant’s total score.

The TEAS exam is a timed, comprehensive assessments that includes the following: Vocabulary and General Knowledge, Reading Comprehension, Science, Grammar, Math and Anatomy & Physiology. Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete A&P I and A&P II before attempting the TEAS exam. The TEAS exam must be completed at Ogeechee Technical College.
Tiebreakers: In the event of a tie, the highest score on the TEAS exam will determine ranking. If a tie remains, the highest GPA in pre-requisite courses will determine ranking.
For the Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Echocardiography, and Radiologic Technology programs:
- A total score is calculated based on TEAS scores and GPA for required prerequisite coursework only. Students are selected based on total score ranking.
- The GPA for prerequisite courses only will be weighted at 40% of the total score. Students must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA in the prerequisite course.
- The TEAS exam score will be weighted at 60% of the total score.
- If a tie exists, the highest score on the TEAS exam will determine ranking.
- If a tie continues to exist, the highest GPA on prerequisite coursework will determine ranking.
Note: Students who are interested in applying for both Echocardiography and Diagnostic Medical Sonography must complete an Interest Form for Competitive Admission for each program they are interested in to be considered for eligibility.
For the Practical Nursing program:
- The highest total based upon the score on the TEAS Exam
- In the event of a tie: highest score from Anatomy & Physiology section of TEAS will be used to determine ranking.
Aptitude Examination
The TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) exam is a standardized test used by Ogeechee Tech to evaluate candidates for potential admission into a competitive admission program. The TEAS exam is intended to gauge a student's achievement in a medical setting. The TEAS test covers reading, math, science and English and language usage skills.
- TEAS exam scores will expire five years after the exam date.
- A student’s first attempt is $40, and a $65 re-test fee is required for each subsequent attempt. Students will be administered the entire exam during each exam attempt. All testing fees are non-refundable.
- A student may schedule, find out when the test is administered, and find helpful study resources by visiting the Assessment Center website. Study guides are also available in the Library.
- Once a TEAS exam has been scheduled, the test must be paid for at least a week prior to the exam date. If it is not, the exam will be canceled.
- If you are unable to test on the scheduled exam date you must reschedule your exam within 24 hours of the scheduled exam time or the exam fee will be forfeited.
