SOC 1103 Social Change in Action and Service Learning
This course is designed to give students the opportunity to serve as volunteers in the community, to study the social justice problems to which they are responding with their volunteer efforts, and to look at local and global social systems in which these problems exit. This course examines the role of philanthropy and community service; it also explores alternative ways that society responds to community needs. This course has a requirement of 60 hours of service during the semester in order to pass the class. Service sites (approximately 15-25) will be chosen by the instructor in order to meet the learning goals of the course.
