Sociology and Anthropology

A degree in sociology prepares students for careers in virtually any field that requires a sound understanding of human behavior. Molloy's Sociology majors graduate with the powerful analytical and communication skills that are essential for a wide variety of professions. Sociology majors are found in virtually every possible career - journalism, criminal justice, public health, politics, human resources, public relations, marketing, social welfare and public administration are among the many fields where Sociology majors now work. Sociology will challenge students to see the world through the lens of different communities and give them the opportunities to collaborate with others in developing multi-cultural and global understandings.

In this increasingly diverse world, the Sociology major is designed to provide students with a broad liberal arts education and a greater comprehension and insight to understand the situations of people different than oneself. Students gain 21st century skills employers are looking for including: critical and analytical thinking, writing and communication abilities, problem solving, data analysis, and cultural competence. Students gain an understanding of the social systems and processes that bear upon everyday lives. Opportunities for students with Bachelor's degrees in Sociology are quite varied, and students develop valuable transferable skills many organizations and employers are seeking in their employees. Some go on to work for human service agencies; others work in human planning; others enter graduate programs in sociology, education, law, medicine or social work.
