CRJ 2170 Computer Forensics

This course provides a basic introduction to the field of computer forensics. The focus of the course will be on the legal and procedural aspects of electronic evidence gathering. The course material will give students a working knowledge of the following topics: definitions and descriptions of various types of cybercrime; the laws regulating access to electronic evidence and requirements for Constitutional searches and seizures; the ways in which electronic evidence can be gathered; and the rules for processing such evidence so that it may be used in court. By the end of the course students will have a solid understanding of these issues plus an appreciation for the importance of conducting electronic searches in a manner that is both legal and ethical.
