MUS 323 Marching Band Techniques

Three hours per week. Offered alternate years. Introduces philosophies and approaches used in managing and teaching a marching band program. Topics include teaching methods, organization and administration, charting, arranging, movement, drill, percussion, and support units. Designed for students majoring in music education. This course is a part of the professional sequence of music teacher educator at Jacksonville University. Basic overview of techniques required in planning, designing, and teaching the contemporary marching band. Contemporary show designing techniques will be covered on computer charting software. In addition, principles and practices relevant to the philosophical, and organizational concerns of operating a marching band program and its function within the total band program will be examined. Warning! This is an activity - based course. You will be asked to listen to lectures and take notes. Most often, however, you will be an active participant in the instructional process within this class. Be prepared to take part.
