MHC 604 Addictive BehaviorsCounseling
This course will address theories of substanceuse, misuse, abuse and dependence and addiction.It will address addiction and dependence onalcohol and other drugs as well as otheraddictive type behaviors. It will addresscounseling needs for each component of theprevention continuum of primary (healthpromotion), secondary (intervention) and tertiary(treatment) including the tenets of relapseprevention. Within each component the needs ofspecial populations including ethnic minorities,children and adolescents, older adults,dualdiagnosed individuals and others will bediscussed. This course will emphasizeappropriate counseling skills and the promotionof responsible behavior.
