ELE 412 CM 7 - ESOL II & Literacy II

This course is designed to prepare ElementaryEducation Preservice teachers to become effectiveteachers, behavior and classroom managers,reflective practitioners and leaders, especiallyin the areas of ESOL and Reading. Reading andESOL content focus on Second Language Acquisitiontheory, the components of language, and readingresearch. Preservice teachers will study the roleof assessment in reading instruction and thefoundations of differentiated instruction forstruggling readers and English Language Learners(ELLs). This course provides the knowledge basenecessary for effective reading instruction. Sucheffective teaching is based on knowledge of howreading is acquired by diverse K-12 students andhow to differentiate instruction to meet alllearning needs effectively. To this end,pre-service teachers will learn about currentresearch findings on learning to read, learninghow to teach diverse K-12 students reading, andcurrent research on how children learn to read.
