DSIM 528 Optimizing Operations

A conceptual framework is provided for evaluatingoperations management practices in traditionalmanufacturing firms and service organizations.Concepts, techniques and tools related to the fourmajor decision responsibilities of operationsmanagers (i.e., process, quality, capacity andinventory) are studied and discussed. Concepts andpractices, such as operating design, total qualitymanagement/six sigma, project management, supplychain management, capacity planning and leanmanagement are examined using practicalapplications. Several computer-based solutions foroperations problems illustrate the tools availableto the operations manager. This course engages thestudent in the identification and solution ofreal-world operations problems through a project.
