NUR 571 Psychiatric Assessment, Diagnostics and Intro to Psychopharmacology across the Lifespan for Mental Health Nurse Practitioners

This course provides the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner the foundations for mental health assessment of patients across the lifespan. Emphasis is on development of a holistic and culturally sensitive comprehensive evidence-based assessment process; the DSM 5 criteria provide guidance for the diagnostic process along with other authoritative resources. The mental status exam, psycho-social history-taking, laboratory data, genetic diagnostics, and screening tools are used to identify mental health problems.  Basic psychopharmacology is introduced.
