Analysis of the mission and historical development of higher education institutions (HEIs) in Europe, the United States, Latin America and Puerto Rico, from their foundations to the present day. A critical evaluation of its possible future tendencies and an examination of what is considered to have been its philosophical and historical-social bases are carried out.
