DST 315 Introduction to Deaf View/Image Art
This course explores the diverse artistic, cinematic, and literary expressions of Deaf people from the 19th century to the present. Students will critically engage with visual art, film, poetry, prose, and performance to examine how Deaf creators articulate identity, culture, politics, and aesthetics. Through analysis and discussion, we will investigate how Deaf art forms intersect with larger movements in disability studies, civil rights, and cultural expression. Emphasis will be placed on how Deaf creators expand understandings of language, embodiment, and creativity.
