RES 200 Independent Study and Research II

In this course, students conduct research in their area of study with guidance from a faculty mentor. The mentor and student develop a plan and meet regularly to focus on developing proficiency in data analysis. Students submit a summary of their work at the end of the semester.

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

    1. Use effective search strategies to find information.
    2. Evaluate relevancy, strengths, and weaknesses of information resources to investigation.
    3. Employ active reading strategies before, during, and after reading.
  3. Collect data in a manner appropriate to the discipline.
    1. Use discipline specific computer tools, instrumentation, and procedures to generate data.
    2. Record data using discipline-specific formatting.
    3. Interpret and draw conclusions from data.
    4. Compare results of investigation with published results.
  4. Report findings from investigation.
    1. Summarize research question, results, and conclusions in written format.
    2. Use discipline-specific terminology in discussions and written responses.
    3. Compare communication to discipline experts and to the public.
    4. Record references relevant to the investigation.

Evaluation Criteria/Policies

The grade will be determined using the Delaware Tech grading system:

90-100 = A
80-89 = B
70-79 = C
0-69 = F
